Board Orientation - As a board member, you have a right to understand what your legal responsibilities are. If you have not received a board orientation by your third month of acceptance, you may need to re-think your appointment. Materials such as your organizational chart, annual budget, a copy of the last year's tax return (990), a copy of your by-laws, committee descriptions, any policies and program descriptions should be forthcoming.
Many organizations are now turning to creating a board report card and an Individual Board Plan (IBP). After receiving your appointment, and completing orientation, your board member skills would be assessed and supplemental information to enrich your board experience would be provided.
If you are in need of such services, there are many additional resources available to assist you in developing them. Check out the Resource Page at http://bestprincipledsolutions.com/resource/html at the Best Principled Solutions website for more support.
Board Member Guerilla Moments are listed frequently in my e-zine. In the future, I will post samplings of these here in my blog. Look around while you're here.
Do you have other aspects of board development that you could present to your board in 3 minute snippets at a board meeting?????? The best solutions come from you.
