You know, just articulating my goal in writing to you was enough to give it the top-of-mind awareness I needed to dig in and achieve my stated goal. Maybe it was that strange quiet that falls on the nonprofit world from December 24th to January 2nd, but I finally had a block of time to PLAN and commit that PLAN to paper. The reaction of my 24 clients to my '2008 Plans' for each of them was so varied that it could be a study in human psyche! Some of them jumped right in and added their own ideas and expanded and elaborated and enhanced what I had done, making it even a better tool. Others were overwhelmed to see a year of work, (hours & hours & hours of it), all laid out for them on the first of January. Their emailed responses upon receiving my "2008 Deadlines Calendar" were edged with new stress. And another sub-set of my clients reacted by calling for face-to-face meetings to talk. So, for much of the first half of January, I’ve spent considerable time comforting, reinforcing, and encouraging my clients. I’ve been reminding them that my firm will be doing 'the heavy lifting' for the work I’ve committed to paper, and that 2008 is looking to be a year of accomplishments and striving for more. And that together, as collaborators in the Body of Work so explicitly laid out in my 'PLAN', we are more than up to the challenge. Thanks, Kayte!

Thanks for your comments. I do believe that people and only people can make a difference. Sure, things may not seem fair or right. One sure way to try and make a difference is to try. Trying says you care and believe in the liberties that this country was founded upon. It has taken many years for many wrongs to be righted. Anyone who thinks we live in a world where one person's vote or say doesn't matter cannot possibly live outside of a bubble.

Me, I'd rather be a part of the solution. Hope you'll join us.

Very interesting how you brought us back around to voting. People are so afraid to talk about voting. They don't realize that if you don't vote, you are losing your voice. You are saying, its alright. I agree 100% with what's going on in our country. Doing something is better than sitting by idly and going with the flow.

What will it take to get people involved, you ask? Good question. Their purse is already being hit. Not sure what else.

Tax change needs to come. Voting is one way to try.

Here's another article that refers to Charity Navigator in WHYY's case and also notes a 2005 article in Chronicle of Philantrophy where it notes that hundreds of non-profit leaders between 1998 and 2003 declined pay raises. http://www.phillymag.com/articles/dead_air/

The public needs to get involved and use these resources such as Charity Navigator and Guidestart to help them choose worthy organizations for support.
